Home-cooked Meals without the Feeling of Home

I’m Vietnamese living in New York City with my little sister. My sister used to go to Chinatown to buy fresh ingredients, and condiments. We always had fish sauce at home, until one day, she’s too afraid to go to Chinatown. The lockdown took place shortly after. Our supply of ethnic ingredients has dwindled without any easy replacement solution.

We used to go grocery shopping. Now our groceries are intermittently dropped off by Amazon Prime Now workers. Sometimes we are lucky enough to get some herbs, and fresh vegetables. More often we compromise by…
